Abstract(s)
A presente investigação pretende estudar o efeito da Educação Intercultural no
preconceito étnico-racial infantil.
ABSTRACT: The present investigation aims to study the effect of Intercultural Education on children's ethnic-racial prejudice. In addition, it seeks to analyze the moderating effect of the attitudes of guardians and/or parents on the relationship between the implementation of intercultural practices and the ethnic-racial prejudice of their students. The study comprised a sample of 108 participants, of which 54 were children and 54 were their respective guardians. Among the child sample, 26 are female and 28 male, covering an age range between 9 and 11 years old. Regarding the guardians, they are aged between 31 and 57 years old. In order to evaluate the study variables, two questionnaires were applied by the Qualtrics platform: the Attitudes and Intergroup Relations Questionnaire (Carlos, 2018) for the children, and a sociodemographic survey for guardians and/or parents of the children. The results presented demonstrated that: Intercultural Education did not have a significant effect on children´s prejudice; The position of the guardian regarding immigration tends to be related to the prejudice of their child towards black peers; The position of the guardian is positively related to the desire of their child to relate to other black children; The attitudes of guardians do not moderate the relationship between Intercultural Education and the prejudice of the child. That said, it is important to reflect on the importance that parents and guardians have in the growth of their child and the development of their prejudice. Additionally, it is essential to discuss the impact that the intercultural approach can have.
