Abstract(s)
A rápida evolução tecnológica, a globalização e as mudanças socioeconómicas estão a
transformar o mundo, exigindo novas competências dos cidadãos. Neste contexto surge
As respostas variaram, destacando a aplicação seletiva
ABSTRACT: The rapid technological evolution, globalization, and socio-economic changes are transforming the world, demanding new skills from citizens. In this context, the acronym STEAM emerges as a new concept that may encourage young people to acquire essential skills to meet future demands. This study investigates the integration of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) in the discipline of Environmental Studies in the Portuguese educational context. This research involved the participation of 10 teachers from 3rd to 4th grade in 10 private schools in the Greater Lisbon area, ranging in age from 26 to 51 years. These participants were interviewed with a set of 8 questions aimed at gathering information about their knowledge of the STEAM concept, the STEAM activities implemented in the Environmental Studies discipline, their perception of effectiveness in applying these activities, and the main challenges and limitations experienced in implementing STEAM activities. The responses varied, highlighting the selective application of STEAM areas, with a lack of time being the main challenge mentioned. There was a considerable lack of awareness about the STEAM term, and interestingly, a positive perception of effectiveness was noted for the majority of participants. It is crucial to note that due to the small group of participants, the results obtained in this dissertation are specific to this limited group.
