Abstract(s)
sociedade.
ABSTRACT: The main objective of this study is to evaluate and understand the attitudes of prison officers towards offenders. Furthermore, it aims to verify the presence or not of burnout syndrome and psychopathological symptoms (depression, anxiety, hostility, paranoid ideation) and evaluate their relationship with prison officers to understand what type of influence it has on their attitudes. The Attitudes towards Delinquents Scale (EARD), the Shirom-Melamed Burnout Measure (SMBM) and the Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI) were applied to a sample of 132 prison officers. The results revealed that prison officers showed negative attitudes towards offenders. Regarding burnout and psychopathological symptoms, the results obtained were weak, but significant, positive and strong correlations were found between these variables. These results highlight the importance of professional training for prison officers to become aware of certain personality characteristics and their attitudes towards offenders, given the resocializing role they have in society.
