Abstract(s)
perpetuar ideias redutoras do individuo. A igualdade preconiza a equidade de direitos e
oportunidades independentemente do género.
O género apresenta relação com a igualdade e estereótipos. A escolaridade
ABSTRACT: Background: The relationship between attitudes towards gender, equality and stereotypes is close and interdependent. Attitudes are shaped by interaction, social and cultural norms and beliefs, which define and impact our lives. The result can challenge established norms or perpetuate reductive ideas of the individual. Equality advocates equal rights and opportunities regardless of gender. Education can play a crucial role in eliminating inequalities, empowering and raising awareness. Older and less educated generations have been associated with greater conservatism and stereotypical attitudes, while young people tend to be more progressive. Objectives: Investigate Portuguese attitudes towards gender, equality and gender stereotypes. To look for correlations with age, gender and schooling to observe the strength, intensity and direction of the relationship, with a view to change compared to what is mentioned in the literature. Method: The sample consisted of 802 participants with an average age of 32.75 years. The data included a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Gender Equality Scale (twodimensional with 7 items) and the Gender Stereotypes Scale (one-dimensional with 14 items) designed and validated in this research. Results: No correlation between age and the equality and stereotypes scales. Gender is related to equality and stereotypes. Education shows a statistically significant relationship with equality. Conclusion: Brief reflection on the results, highlighting those that contradict what has been described in the literature. Possible interpretations and impact of a theoretical change in attitudes towards contemporary Portuguese society, gender roles and inequalities.
