Abstract(s)
Self mutilation is present in several psychiatric issues, such as the Borderline Deviation of the Character, Depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder. The seriousness level of this behaviour has a global variation according to its role in the psychological display of each individual, extent of associated damage, external environment influences and life skills avaliables of the self. This work intends, within a theoretical background of self mutilating behaviours including functions, evaluation and treatments, to systematize and reflect about their nature, integrating them in cognitive-behavioral model, which is considered to gather the best conditions to deal with and bring about prevention and interacting measures towards this behavior, once it proved, according to the available literature, to be more effective in the treatment of the mentioned issues.
