Abstract(s)
A análise
The following article studies the Health Locus of Control (HLoC) construct in a group of alcoholic in-patients, specifically analysing to whom they attribute the expectation of control over positive and negative reinforcement affecting their health. To the individuals that share the belief that these results would follow their own actions we would attribute an Internal Locus, while the External Locus would be divided into sub-dimensions as the expectation lied with “Powerfull Others” or with the random element of “Chance”. Aditionally we sought to find the type of connection that the HLoC would have with the severity of experienced depressive symptoms. To this effect we raised subjects from three institutions of the Lisbon metropolitan area, coming to 109 participants. The statistical analysis treatment revealed the preference for the adoption of control expectations by “Powerfull Others”, gathering 64.6% of cases and a depression incidence of about 68.6%, verifying a low negative correlation between them. This result reinforces the need of therapeutic counseling where the stimulus to the auto-promotion of health would be a master point.
