tendem a perder o controlo.
A amostra do estudo
ABSTRACT: Psychological Empowerment components are relevant in people experiencing oncologic illness because of the numerous ways in which they come to lose control. This research aims to investigate, in the community perspective, the role of Reiki in the empowerment of people with experience of oncologic illness. In this sense, the main aim was to understand the subjective experiences in Reiki, perception of their health benefits, and how it can become a promising resource for the promotion of empowerment and contribute to the study of the dimensions of empowerment in this community. The empirical implementation was developed in two distinct approaches - quantitative and qualitative as an exploratory study. From a sample of 25 participants with cancer, 15 who only used the conventional treatment and another group of 10 who complemented these treatments with Reiki. In the 1st phase it was explained the conceptualization of the process of empowerment, and a psychological empowerment questionnaire of 34 items (adapted from Mok, 1998) was applied, in order to understand the differences in the levels of empowerment, among those who use complementary approach Reiki and those who use only conventional treatment. In the 2nd phase through semi - structured interview, we explored the concept of empowerment from the perspective of 5 participant users of Reiki, and the empowering role of Reiki was examined. In the light of thematic analysis, it was verified the themes inherent to the dimensions of empowerment attributed to Reiki, by the participants. The main conclusions were the confirmation for the existence of 7 main themes for the empowering process of Reiki, and there are diferences in sense of Psychologycal Empowerment for the both groups. We conclude that these results reinforce the need to conceptualize the EP in this context, as an individual, social and collective process.
