Abstract(s)
sujeito e o transcendente numa linguagem mĂtico-simbĂłlica.
ABSTRACT: CandomblĂ© is an Afro-Brazilian trance possession ritual religion, which emerged in Europe, specifically in Portugal, due to the phenomenon of immigration. The purpose of this study is to reflect and analyze the therapeutic processes involving the cult of CandomblĂ©, through the specific worldview of the disease, because the practitioners consider it as an alternative therapy that aims at biopsychosocial wellbeing. Through the multidisciplinary study of existing literature and some direct observation of worship in Lisbon, the entire system of CandomblĂ© is attempted to be described. The focus is on intervention of therapeutic agents, being the head of worship and the Orishas, as well as the therapeutic processes and mythical-symbolic relating to the initiation ritual and the trance possession ritual. Thus, this religion, organized around the manifestation of a divine entity in the body of the practitioners and directly associated with it, permits a fusion between the subject and a transcendent, using a mythic-symbolic language. The possession phenomenon in the state of trance, induced by dance and music, is an institutional system and a system of mental states. It is also seen as a commemorative representation and a manifestation of the double and the metamorphosis (due to the transformation of personality). The therapeutic process includes also the process of identifying mythical (reflecting the divinityâs image) and the action of a united community. This study may be a precondition for potential clinical investigations aiming at improving the intervention for ethnic minorities.
