Abstract(s)
a menor novidade sexual e menor satisfação sexual.
ABSTRACT: Research has shown that viewing pornography is associated with relationship quality and propensity for extradyadic behavior. However, it has not yet been examined whether these associations may stem from the discrepancy between the pornographic content people view and their sexual activities in the relationship. As such, we want to examine to what extent more frequent viewing of content and activities that are not put into practice in the sexual relationship (i.e., pornography discrepancy) is associated with relationship quality and desire for extradadic behavior. We also want to understand whether these associations are explained by the need for sexual novelty and sexual satisfaction, and whether they differ by gender. In a correlational study of people in a romantic relationship (N = 733), we found that greater discrepancy in the direction of pornography was associated with less sexual novelty and less sexual satisfaction. However, only sexual satisfaction was associated with lower relationship quality and greater desire for extradyadic behaviors, both sexual and emotional. Even though women reported higher relational sexual satisfaction and men reported higher desire for extradyadic behaviors, gender did not emerge as a moderator of the results. The results of this study suggest that pornography may serve as a way to combat sexual needs through sexual fantasies, but also by increasing unmet sexual frustrations.
