encontram no desemprego.
Suicida - QIS (Ferreira & Castela, 1999).
ABSTRACT: Unemployment is a daily-considered topic that has an impact on the person and on the family as well. It is in this regard that it is important to measure this impact on family dynamics, suicidal ideation and depression in individuals that are unemployed. Therefore in this study we try to understand if the family dynamics (more balanced or more unbalanced) are different in families with or without employment, as well as we try to assess if there is higher rate of suicidal ideation and depression in unemployed people. Moreover we attempt to comprehend if there are different expectations of finding a job given the time of unemployment. For more accurate results we used a comparative sample, consisting of 60 families residing in Funchal, Madeira Island, 30 in unemployment and 30 employed. Therefore we had a total of 156 participants, 60 being teenagers and 96 adults. The data was collected through the Family Adaptability and Cohesion Scale – FACES-IV (Olson & Gorall, 2011), The Perceived Control Expectancies in Job Finding Scale - ECP-BE (Piqueras & Morejón, 1998) , Beck Depression Inventory -BDI-II (Coelho, Martins & Barros, 2002) and Suicidal Ideation Questionnaire – QIS (Ferreira & Castela, 1999). In regards to the results, we found that unemployed families are more unbalanced than employed, as well as they show more signs of suicidal ideation and depression. Lastly, we found that the duration on unemployment has no effect on expectations of finding a job.
