Abstract(s)
According to Brazelton and Greenspan (2004), the relationship that young people maintain within the group has a fundamental attribute in their development process, so it is important to instil in children and young people the true meaning of friendship when establishing peer relationships "in and out of school". This is a task for parents, the school and the entire educational community, and these same authors (Brazelton & Greenspan, 2004) argue that all children and young people's learning is justified by the knowledge acquired in "early relationships with others (peers)". This study seeks to understand the conceptions of (in)appropriate behaviour among peers in 2nd and 3rd cycle students, as well as to identify and understand more clearly the differences in (in)appropriate behaviour among peers in 2nd and 3rd cycle students. This study involved 181 participants, 2nd and 3rd cycle students from a group of schools in the Amadora council. The students were selected using the convenience sampling technique. The instrument used to collect the necessary data was a questionnaire. To assess peer relations, the questionnaire on peer relations at school by GrĂĄcio and Silva (2014) was used. Given the research question of this study, according to the objectives set and the results obtained, it can be seen that students' behaviour can be affected by the relationship they have with each other, either through observation/intimidation, with the aim of integration and with their peers as role models, or, on the other hand, this relationship may not affect behaviour, as long as selfdetermination prevails.
