ABSTRACT: Introduction: questionnaires are the most used method for the evaluation of sleep problems and sleep disorders. The Children's Sleep Habits Questionnaire (CSHQ) has been adapted to the Portuguese culture (CSHQ-PT) and was validated in a community sample, showing adequate psychometric properties. Considering the high prevalence of sleep problems in the Portuguese population, there is a particular interest in performing an additional CHSQ-PT validation with clinical populations with more sleep problems. Objective: clinical validation of CSHQ-PT in Portuguese children aged 2 to 10 years old. Methods: this study involved 148 distributed by three sample groups: two clinical groups, with the diagnosis of Sleep Disorder and Attention Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and a control group with children without these diagnoses. Sleep data were collected using the CSHQ-PT. Results: the CSHQ-PT total scale internal consistency (Cronbach’s α) was 0.75 in the clinical group (Sleep Disorders and ADHD), and ranged from 0.55 to 0.85 for subscales. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis of the Sleep Disorder Index determined a cutoff of 48 for the screening of Sleep Disorders, which is more adequate for the Portuguese population. Conclusion: the CSHQ-PT has shown to be useful for the screening and research of Sleep Disorders.
