Método: pesquisas eletrónicas sistemáticas, pelos termos therapist interventions*, therapist efficacy*, therapist effects*, phycoanalytic therapy research*, expertise in psychotherapy* e psychotherapy outcomes*, nas bases eletrónicas: PsycInfo, PsycArticles, Psychoanalitic Electronic Publishing (PEP), Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection (PBSC), Academic Search Complete e Ovid-Wiley Online Library.

An additional search on books and on the bibliographies of all collected articles was also reviewed. Results: 52 empirical studies on therapist effects and therapist efficacy were selected, wherein 13 are detailed in appendix table. Conclusions: evidence supporting the importance of individual therapits is widespread and further study empirically defensible is necessary. As points for further research it is suggested the compared assessment of therapists professional development, further empirical evidence of therapeutic effects mediation in psychotherapy pratice, clarify the correlations between the therapist effectiveness self-assessment and how patients perceive it, how this data reflects in the psychoterapeutic process outcomes and how therapist mindset affects the outcome of the patients.
