Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT: Introduction: Experiencing bereavement of a loved one can be a potentially destabilizing event. The ability to find and attribute meaning to the loss, such as recovery and/or search for spiritual meaning, can facilitate its understanding. This process can, in some cases, be the impetus for posttraumatic growth. Objetive: The aim of this study is to analyse the presence of meaning and relationship between posttraumatic growth, meaning of life and spirituality in a bereaved population. Method: A sample of 269 bereaved adults took part in this study, completing questionnaires assessing posttraumatic growth (PTGI-X), meaning of life (MILQ) and spirituality (FACIT-Sp-12). Results: The results showed that the presence of meaning in life and spirituality predict posttraumatic growth, explaining 16,9% of the variance. Spirituality explained 18,9% of the variance in posttraumatic growth. Discussion: The presence of meaning and faith contribute to the development of posttraumatic growth in bereavement. Clinical approaches to grief adjustment should consider their significance.
