Abstract(s)
Rating Scale (CDRS), a escala Smarphone Addiction Scale- Short version e a escala Self photo
editing and photo investment. Verificaram-se correlações negativas entre adicção às redes
sociais e autoestima (r=-.335; p<.001); manipulação de fotografias e autoestima (r= -0,211;
ABSTRACT: Nowadays, the use of new technologies is used in an exaggerated way, and it is increasingly common to compare physical appearance through online social media. Recently, literature has been showing that the manipulation of photographs to give an incorrect image of physical appearance negatively impacts on the physical and psychological health of the individual. The final sample of this study was composed by 729 participants, aged 18-71(66.1% females, 33.9% males). We used the Rosenberg General Self-Esteem scale, the Internet Addiction scale adapted to use of social media, the Contour Drawing Rating Scale (CDRS), the Smarphone Addiction Scale - Short version, and the Self Photo Editing and Photo Investment scale. There were negative correlations between social media addiction and self-esteem (r=- .335; p<.001); manipulation of photographs and self-esteem (r= -0.211; p<,001); body satisfaction and photo manipulation (r= -.251; p<.001) and social media addiction and body satisfaction (r= -.192; p<.001). At the same time, the addiction to social media and the manipulation of photographs are positively correlated (r=.0.57; p<.00.1) as well as the addiction to social media and manipulation of photographs (r=.401; p<.001). Additionally, social media addiction almost completely explains the relationship between self-esteem and manipulation of photographs (partial r =-.018) and partially explains the relationship between body satisfaction and photo manipulation (partial r =.177; p<.001). In this study, it is possible to agree that the social media addiction negatively impacts the health of the subjects, lead to the subjects creating a lack of image of themselves causing them to develop a false self.
