Abstract(s)
Background: Research in the field of mental well-being continues to expand rapidly. In this regard, some personality traits have been associated with this concept, such as dispositional flow and activity orientations. Objectives: The present study aimed to investigate: a) whether activity orientations and dispositional flow significantly predict mental well-being; b) whether there are significant differences between tuning practitioners and non-practitioners in terms of orientations (hedonic, eudaimonic, and extrinsic), dispositional flow, and mental well-being; and c) whether dispositional flow plays a mediating role in the relationship between activity orientations and mental well-being. Method: The sample consisted of 200 tuning drivers, 100 practitioners and 100 non-practitioners, with ages ranging from 18 to 75 years (M = 26.89; SD = 9.352). Dispositional flow was measured using the Dispositional Flow Scale-2, activity orientations were measured using the Hedonic, Eudaimonic, and Extrinsic Motivations for Activities Scale, and mental well-being was measured using the Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-Being Scale. Results: The findings showed that the dimensions " unambiguous feedback" and "concentration" related to dispositional flow significantly predicted mental well-being. It was also found that there were statistically significant differences between groups across all dimensions of the variables studied, except for the dispositional flow dimension "action-awareness merging." The existence of the mediating effect of dispositional flow in the relationship between orientations for activities and mental well-being was verified.
