a ideação suicida.
ABSTRACT: Adolescence sets up a period of crisis in family life, when the individual goes through a big change when moving on from childhood to adult life. The kind of family functioning seems to be a factor that exerts influence upon, both the process of achieving autonomy and the suicide ideation in adolescence. With the help of this study, we have intended to examine the impact of family types, according to Cohesion and Adaptability, in the perception of behavioral and emotional autonomy, as well as suicide ideation in adolescence. For that purpose, we have used four instruments which allowed us to assess both the family functioning, behavioral autonomy, emotional autonomy and suicide ideation. 187 adolescents, between 13 and 16 years old have answered to these questionnaires. Through average comparisons, we have come to the conclusion that adolescents who live in functional in terms of Cohesion, are the ones who show higher levels of behavioral autonomy and less suicide ideation. However, adolescents who live in dysfunctional families, in what concerns both Cohesion and Adaptability, are those who reveal a higher level of emotional autonomy. These results allow us to say that autonomy may be an adaptable process of any adolescent who perceives disfunctionality in the family and, consequently, looks for support outside that one. On the other hand, results of suicide ideation indicate that a functional family atmosphere favours the prevention of suicide ideation in adolescence.
