Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT: School psychology is a specialty of psychology that focuses on the application of educational psychology in the school context, as well as in the schooling process. School psychologists play a crucial role in promoting equal opportunity in accessing educational and psychological services, where they can coordinate and facilitate collaboration between diverse professionals when working at the intersection of different systems. In order to manage teachers' expectations regarding the role of the psychologist, it is essential to establish clarity regarding objectives, and promote an environment of effective collaboration and relationships between both. However, there are few and recent studies that address the perception of teachers in relation to the role of the psychologist working in a school context, and therefore, this is the main objective of this study. The present study included the participation of 768 teachers from the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Cycle of Basic Education and Secondary Education, who responded to a questionnaire about different activities/tasks that could be performed by psychologists working in a school context. The results demonstrated that, generally speaking, teachers think that the psychologist's main work is related to practices associated with involvement with children, whether of a remedial nature or an interventional nature, following a medical model of intervention. However, the expectations that teachers have may vary depending on the teaching levels at which they work, as well as their experience.
