Abstract(s)
The relationship between twins, is often associated in the scientific literature with identity problems. Until now, the subject has been mostly understood from the eyes of the other, and so does the twins. The understanding of the relationship emerges from the eyes of another. The present study intends to understand the subject that lives the relationship and what for him, constitutes a twin´s experience. The psychic processes of identification and differentiation contributes to the relational dynamics and, consequently, to the identity configuration of the two pairs of twins - with both genders represented, and ages between 46 and 60 years old. The method used was the Narrative Interview in Free Association (FANI). Its application resulted in the obtaining of four narratives that were analyzed individually, and posteriorly, together in an analysis conducted by the elements of the speech of the participants that stand out the most. The results show differences between the pairs of twins. For Filipe and Luís, the family promotes the undifferentiating between both, in the case of Carmo and Teresa the place among the family allows its differentiation. However, it is understood that there are also points in common, transversal to the two pairs of twins, referring to an anaclitic relationship of dependence and support, and to the presence of the twin promoting gratification and narcissistic satisfaction. The conquest of authenticity is configured, in other words, through the resolution of the conflict between the undifferentiating and autonomy. The present study was enriching, allowing a better understanding of the subject who´s living the relationship, and the impact of the relationship on the identity configuration. The present study also contributed to the development and reflection about the twin relationship, and to the need to think about it in a therapeutic context, but precisely in the transference.
