ABSTRACT: Community integration and self-determination are widely discussed topics in the area of Mental Health Community. There is the concern with the appreciation of the individual, the equal opportunities and the right to social involvement, trying to promote the empowerment of individuals, including individuals with disorders of development. It was created, therefore, a biographic narrative of an adult of 39 years old, male, with Asperger Syndrome. Thus, we intended to understand till what point he is integrated in the community and self-determinate, based on an ecological model. To collect information, we used the auto-biographical method BNIM (Wengraf, 2009), including two interviews (three sub-sessions) made to the participant. The methodology helped us to understand that, although an adult with Asperger’s Syndrome may play a role in society and combine a set of self-determination characteristics, community support systems are essential to allow him to have a significant level of empowerment in his life.
