Abstract(s)
humor, nomeadamente a solidão, depressão, ansiedade e stress, têm vindo a mostrar
As
The use of pornography in an addictive way, sexual functioning and the various moods states, such as loneliness, depression, anxiety and stress have been showing a strong relationship with each other. However, the relation between the variables mentioned above haven’t been consistent in the literature. This study aims to analyze the interrelationships between those variables and understand how the compulsive use of pornography can affect the sexual functioning and mood states of the individuals. This way, this study intends to try to clarify some current controversies in the literature. The sample of the present investigation is composed of 906 individuals (491 women and 415 men), and a subsample of subjects with sexual relations with the opposite sex in the last 4 weeks, comprising a total of 352 individuals (149 women and 203 men). We used a Sociodemographic Questionnaire, the Internet Addiction Test (IAT) scale, adapted to pornography viewing, the scale that measures the quality of relationships (PRQC), the scale that assesses feelings of stress, anxiety and depression (EADS), the scale that assesses feelings of loneliness (UCLA-3), the Female Sexual Functioning Index (FSFI), the Female Sexual Distress Scale (FSDS-R), the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) and finally the Tool Premature Ejaculation Diagnosis (PEDT). The results showed that greater addiction to pornography correlates with more loneliness, anxiety, depression and stress, in both genders. Pornography addiction has significant and negative correlations with dimensions of male and female sexual functioning. The variables that best explain difficulties in sexual function are addiction to pornography and loneliness, in both genders.
