O acolhimento
depressiva, por comparação, com as crianças/jovens em meio familiar de vida (Rosinha, 2005;
ABSTRACT: This research focuses on the relevance of studying the problems of adverse emotional and cognitive development of young people, named several times by different levels of malaise. Thus, it is intended to link the paths of life of young people in situations of institutionalization (G.J.I.) and in the familiar environment (G.J.N.I), with psychopathological symptoms and the intensity of psychological distress. The institution shelter for children / young people without adequate family support has set itself the central issue. The investigations in this area, about the true impact of institutionalization, indicate that children / youths institutionalized show depressive trends, by comparison, with children / young people in the family environment (Rosinha, 2005; Ferreira, 2002, cits. by Marques, 2006). In this study were 30 young people, from 13 to 16 years old. It was utilized the Symptoms Checklist 90 - R (SCL-90 - R), evaluating the differences on the average values and standard deviations of the two groups (G.J.I. and G.J.N.I.) for the 9 dimensions of psychological symptoms, as well the correlation between these dimensions. The results indicate that the G.J.I. presents more psychopathological symptoms, rather than G.J.N.I. with delinquent behavior in the family environment. Also reported that there is an analogy between the institutionalization and the Symptoms General Index (GSI), in which the G.J.I. expresses higher intensity of psychological suffering. It concludes that the paths of life of these young people were fundamental in the number of psychopathological symptoms and in the intensity of psychological distress.
