Abstract(s)
interpretativa (Interpretative phenomenological analysis, IPA).
As conclusões
ABSTRACT: The experience of maternal bereavement following the loss of a child is a deeply complex and personal process. This research aims to explore the complex dynamics of maternal bereavement and the role of the siblings through a qualitative interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA). Through the results obtained, it was possible to gain a more comprehensive insight into the unique way in which siblings contribute to the mourning process of mothers and the whole underlying experience of maternal loss, through the view of eight Portuguese bereaved mothers, by means of an interview and subsequent analysis of the experience. Around six main themes were identified, with various sub-themes: (1) transformation of the vision of being-in-the-world, maternal role and state of alienation; (2) uniqueness and individuality of each child; (3) intersubjectivity of mourning, emotional protection and double pain - impact on the family and control of the narrative; (4) fear of the death of other children; (5) search for the symbolic continuity of the deceased child and (6) children as a source of purpose, strength, meaning and change in the mourning process. The conclusions presented here may have significant implications for the approach and follow-up of maternal bereavement in psychotherapy, as well as for the way siblings are dealt with and their relationship with their mothers during this devastating experience
