Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT: The present study aimed to test the predictive effect of the commitment with colleagues and the commitment to the supervisor over organizational commitment. For this purpose, a questionnaire was composed of four parts: the first one related to sociodemographic issues; the second one related to the measurement of the Organizational Commitment construct based on the three-dimensional model of Allen and Meyer (1997), using the scale translated and adapted for Portugal de Nascimento, Lopes and Salgueiro (2008): and the third and fourth part alluding to the commitment to colleagues and supervisor, in which the translation and adaptation of the items of the aforementioned scale were made to the context of the relationship established between the employees and the respective supervisor, as well as the relationship with co-workers. Through the results, it was verified that not all the dimensions of the commitment to the colleagues and to the management affect all the components of the organizational commitment, nevertheless, the affective and normative dimension of the focuses of the commitment are predictors of the affective and normative Commitment with the organization. Thus, it has generally been concluded that the more the employee is committed to the supervisor and his colleagues, the higher their levels of organizational commitment. This means that when the employee looks at the organization he thinks about the relationship he establishes with his supervisor and colleagues.
