Abstract(s)
The purpose of this study is to know the perception of Quality of Life (QOL) in patients with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and the factors that influence it, particularly the following variables: gender, marital status, age and time of diagnosis. Our target population consists of 30 patients with MS, who attend the consultations of Neurology of the Hospital of SĂŁo Bernardo (SetĂșbal), in the period comprehended between May 15 and June 6, 2008. Data collection was performed using a socio-demographic questionnaire and a generic questionnaire for assessing the QOL: the SF-36. Not obtained statistically significant results. However, we observed that the QOL of these patients is in general terms at a level lower than the normal population, so is more impaired in physical than in psychosocial. We noted that the QOL decreases with age, therefore, usually the degree of disability increases with the same, but is linked positively to the time of diagnosis, which requires an adjustment to the disease over time.
