O coach real vs. o coach ideal: caracterĂ­sticas e competĂȘncias dos profissionais de coaching

Abstract(s)

A presente investigação teve como objetivo compreender a realidade do Coaching em Portugal. Para tal foram escolhidas variĂĄveis que permitissem caracterizar o perfil dos Coaches portugueses e compreender como a população em geral representa o perfil destes profissionais. Foram realizados dois estudos: o Estudo 1, para analisar as caracterĂ­sticas e competĂȘncias dos Coaches com uma amostra de 10 sujeitos, com idades compreendidas entre os 28 e os 60 anos e o Estudo 2, para compreender como a população em geral representa o profissional de Coaching, com uma amostra de 93 sujeitos com idades compreendidas entre os 23 e os 79 anos. Ambos sĂŁo estudos exploratĂłrios, com abordagem quantitativa e delineamento correlacional. No Estudo 1 foram escolhidas as variĂĄveis autoeficĂĄcia avaliada atravĂ©s (CoachÂŽs self-efficacy in regard to coaching skills de Baron e Morin, 2009), a inteligĂȘncia emocional (questionĂĄrio desenvolvido por Fernandes, 2005) e, os traços de personalidade (BFI-44). No Estudo 2 foi avaliado o estilo de tomada de decisĂŁo (REI-40) e os traços de personalidade (BFI-44) que, idealmente, de acordo com a opiniĂŁo dos participantes, deverĂŁo ter estes profissionais. Os resultados indicam que estes profissionais dĂŁo extrema importĂąncia Ă  relação estabelecida com o Coachee e que, as suas competĂȘncias mais relevantes passam pelo auto encorajamento, a compreensĂŁo das prĂłprias emoçÔes e a empatia, sendo indivĂ­duos abertos Ă  experiĂȘncia, amĂĄveis e extrovertidos. A população em geral caracteriza o perfil ideal destes profissionais como conscienciosos, extrovertidos, abertos Ă  experiencia e amĂĄveis, demonstrando uma preferĂȘncia por Coaches com um estilo mais intuitivo.
The present research aimed to understand the reality of Coaching in Portugal. For this purpose, variables were chosen to characterize the profile of the Portuguese Coaches and to understand how the general population represents the profile of these professionals. Two studies were carried out: the Study 1, to analyze the characteristics and competences of the Coaches with a sample of 10 subjects, aged between 28 and 60 years, and the Study 2, to understand how the general population represents the coaching professional, with a sample of 93 subjects aged between of 23 and 79 years. Both are exploratory studies, with quantitative approach and correlation delineation. In Study 1 the variables self-efficacy, emotional intelligence and personality traits were chosen. The self-efficacy variable was evaluated by Baron and Morin's (Coach's self-efficacy in regard to coaching skills", 2009), emotional intelligence (Fernandes, 2005) and personality traits by (BFI-44). The Study 2 evaluated the style of decision making and the personality traits that these professionals should ideally have. The decision-making style was evaluated by (REI-40) and the personality traits by the (BFI-44). The results indicate that these professionals give greatest importance to the professional relationship established with Coachee and, that their most relevant competences go through, self-encouragement, understanding of their own emotions and empathy, being open-minded, loving and extroverted individuals. The general population, characterizes the ideal profile of these professionals as conscientious, extroverted, open to experience and loving, demonstrating a preference for Coaches with a more intuitive style.
