Abstract(s)
relacione Influenciadoras digitais e PCA é insuficiente.
ABSTRACT: The literature has shown that exposure to unrealistic body images is related to an increased risk of developing Eating Disorders (ED) (Aparicio-Martinez et al., 2019; Harriger et al, 2022). However, there is insufficient research linking digital influencers and eating disorders. The main objective of the present study was to understand whether exposure time to content posted by female digital influencers is related to ED characteristics and how this effect can be mediated by social comparison through physical appearance with female digital influencers. A correlational study was carried out with 280 young Portuguese women aged between 18 and 24, who completed a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Eating Disorder Examination-Questionnaire (EDE-Q) and the Social Comparison through Physical Appearance Scale (ECSAF). The results showed that the time of exposure to the content of female digital influencers, on its own, does not present a statistically significant relationship with the characteristics of ED and that the time of exposure to the content of female digital influencers does not establish a statistically significant relationship with social comparison through physical appearance with female digital influencers. Social comparison through physical appearance with Female Digital Influencers has a significant and negative impact on ED characteristics. Social comparison through physical appearance with Female Digital Influencers has a mediating effect on the relationship between exposure time to Female Digital Influencers' content and ED characteristics. The results highlight how exposure to content from female digital influencers and the propensity to develop ED traits are related, as well as the relevance of social comparison through physical appearance in this relationship.
