Abstract(s)
O presente trabalho tem como objetivo traduzir e validar uma escala que avalia a
significância atribuída ao trabalho pelos colaboradores.
Com base numa revisão de literatura, foi possível identificar o significado como uma
das variáveis essenciais da vida humana, influenciando inúmeras vertentes, possuindo varias
fontes, sendo uma delas o contexto de trabalho.
A literatura sugere que o trabalho com significância, ou meaningful work, contribuí para
o crescimento pessoal e funcionamento ótimo do trabalhador, para além de potenciar o
organizational commitment e o job engagement, dos trabalhadores, emergindo assim a
necessidade de instrumentos validados para o contexto organizacional Português.
Desta forma, foi escolhida uma escala para o estudo do meaningful work: a Work and
Meaning Inventory (WAMI), tendo sido desenvolvida por Steger, Dik e Duffy (2012).
Recorreu-se a uma amostra de 101 participantes, inseridos no contexto hospitalar, para
a validação desta escala, sendo necessário avaliar as suas qualidades psicométricas –
sensibilidade, fiabilidade e validade (Kline, 1986).
Apesar de apresentar uma boa fiabilidade, não foi possível assegurar a validade e a
sensibilidade da versão traduzida da escala.
The present study has the objective of translating and validating a scale that assesses the meaningful work given by employees. Following a literature review, it was possible to identify meaning as an essential variable of human life, impacting several of its facets, possessing several sources, being one of them the work context. Literature suggests, that meaningful of work, contributes the personal growth and optimal functioning of the common worker, as well as increasing their organizational commitment and job engagement, hence justifying the need of validated instruments to assess this variable in the Portuguese organizational context. As such, a scale was chosen to assess the meaning of work: The Work and Meaning Inventory (WAMI), originally developed by Steger, Dik and Duffy (2012). A sample of 101 subjects was collected from an hospital setting, to validate this scale, as it was required to study its psychometrical qualities – discriminatory power, reliability and validity (Kline, 1986). Despite the translated instrument having a good reliability, it was not possible to ensure validity and discriminatory power.
