Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT: Cyberbullying is a major public health problem, which occurs when one or more individuals, through the use of electronic media, act with the aim of attacking another. The impact of cyberbullying on the mental health of adolescents is reflected in the negative effect on the lives of young people and young adults, and this phenomenon has serious implications for the mental health and development of human beings. The main aim of this study was to understand and analyse the problems associated with cyberbullying, to assess mental health and self-esteem in victims, as well as to understand how low self-esteem and mental illness can be a vulnerable factor in cyberbullying victimization. The sample consisted of 221 individuals (164 female, 56 male and 1 intersex) and was divided into two groups: victims (n= 48) and non-victims (n= 173). The instruments used were the Sociodemographic Data and Sample Characterization Questionnaire, two questionnaires assessing cyberbullying (CBQ and CBQ-V), the Mental Health Inventory (MHI-38) and the Self-Esteem Scale. As for the results, it is expected that a relationship will be found between being a victim of cyberbullying and developing difficulties in terms of self-esteem, as well as overall mental health.
