Abstract(s)
In accordance with recent studies about the search of psychological treatments in Portugal, the adherence to Psychoanalysis has come to decline with the years. With the emergence of new treatments that promise efficacy, efficiency and quick results, these new treatments have become the predominant treatment choice in accelerated times, which seem almost deprived of moments for pause and reflect. Departing from the point that the social representation of a certain object determines to a large extent the associated attitude, opinion and behavior towards an object, it is considered essential to study and unfold the its content. The purpose of the present study was to elaborate and point out the social representation of psychoanalysis in the study population of Portuguese university students. We can hereby affirm that Psychoanalysis is a frequently correctly represented concept in terms of knowledge, the attitude and beliefs towards it are predominantly positive and the information sources vast. However, concluding with the results at hand, the reduced search of Psychoanalysis in students is associated with financial and informational factors. To complete we suggest possible recommendations for future research and illuminate limitations of the study at hand.
