ABSTRACT: The main goals of this study are primarily to know the personality profile of individuals with long term marriages and the possible correlations between personality and years of marriage. The aim is an exploratory study of reality, using a convenience sample consisting of 35 participants aged between 46 and 88 years, of both sexes, married or widowed, but with weddings for over 10 years. The assessment instruments used were the NEO-PI-R (Costa & McCrae, 1992) and Questionnaire Sample Characterization. The main results showed a personality profile with a greater ability to resist temptation and frustration and a cautious and orderly behavior. Impulsivity appears to diminish as the years of marriage will increase, while altruism appears to reach higher levels as the years go by in the marital relationship. Features above may play a protective role in the longevity of marriage.
