Abstract(s)
pai/filho permanece insuficientemente explorado.
recém-nascido.
ABSTRACT: The modern family was born out of two figures, the mother and the child. At the same time, but in parallel, the father figure was also sketched out. However, in regards to his role, the process was less explicit and less linear than the mother's, with a poorly defined content. The situation of preterm delivery is a specific time of the family crisis, whose impact on the parent/child relationship still hasn't been fully explored. Therefore, through a qualitative analysis, we intend to investigate the feelings regarding fatherhood and the parental involvement in a context of hospitalization for prematurity. For that, we have interviewed five men, all fathers of premature babies hospitalized in a child intensive care unit. The criteria for including them were: male, father of a premature baby (24-35 weeks), with a minimum of three visitations with the baby until the interview. We used a clinical interview, semi structured, to evaluate the emotional involvement of the parents with their children. In the analysis and treatment of the interviews, we used the content analysis method. The results revealed that there are favorable conditions to make parental involvement possible and beneficial. The involvement was subsequently classified as positive in this research. The condition of hospitalization for preterm birth seems, therefore, to be a situation that although apparently hard and anxious for the parents, also offers possibilities for contact and father involvement with the newborn.
