Abstract(s)
This study aimed to evaluate, by applying the questionnaire Children's Depression Inventory (CDI; M. Kovacs, 1992), the presence of depressive symptoms in children in single-parent families, female or male, comparing them with children belonging to traditional nuclear families. Children's depression has been the target of several studies, in that it may compromise the development of the child, until adulthood. Several inter-related factors are pointed out as a cause of mental pathology, not being possible to think about only in one specific. Depression can be influenced by biological, organic and environmental factors, and this study focused primarily on the influence of family structure in the expression of depressive symptoms in school-age children. With this thesis, it is intended to make an additional contribution of analysis, with the identification of symptoms and causes of childhood depression, to define strategies for early intervention.
