Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT: The present study aims at the stress levels, anxiety and depression in grandparents and relates it with variables such, as number of hours spent with grandchildren, percepcion of the relation between grandparents and grandchildren, the role of the grandparents, percepcion of the role of children in the relationship between grandparents and grandchildren, with socio-demographic variables. It`s a non probabilistic sample by convenience, composed by 234 grandparents residing in Portugal, 165 females gender and 69 male gender, with ages raging from 39 to 90 years old. As instruments we used, a socio-demographic, a questionnair with 8 questions preveasly developed to acess the relationship between grandparents and grandchildren, and the Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21). Since this is na observational and descriptive correlational, the results were analyzed using ANOVA (one-way). We concluded that there are significant differences in the sample concerning the relationship with their grandchildren, the role of grandparents, the perception of grandparents about the role of there children as facilitators of the relationship between grandparents and grandchildren, in cronical illness and qualifications. We obtened a positive correlation of week intensity between stress levels, anxiety and depression in grandparents and the number of children. It seams that the number of hours spent with their grandchildren, gender, marital status and profession doesnt influence in the psychological well-fair of the grandparents
