Abstract(s)
estabelecido.
parental.
Parental education, considered as an intervention focused on parents to prevent future offspring problems, has been an increasingly target of interest, especially directed to families with children at risk, caused by biological, environmental or acquired reasons. However, due to the changes observed in the social and family structure, the parental demands to educate the children are generally increasing, even if they are not in a situation of risk. In consequence, the caregivers often have difficulty in finding the right solutions for the problems they have to face while educating their children. Therefore, what is shown here is the result of a case study in which, through an investigation/action strategy, we intervened in a medium class portuguese family with no pathology or deficiency. The parental education program here described was built according to the needs and competences presented by the family, with the following goals: analysing the relevance of home-visiting parent education in order to promote parental skills; defining the strategies to be used in these sort of programs; investigating the efficiency of these strategies; and giving the necessary information to develop the program in other families that might require it. Notorious transformations were reached in the parents-children interaction, resulting in a more positive family dynamic capable of enhancing the welfare and promoting children’s normal development. These results were maintained in the follow-up assessment. Thus, we concluded that this strategy is appropriate to carry out in parental education programs.
