Mini-Mental State Examination, as Escalas de Bem-Estar Psicológico – versão reduzida
ABSTRACT: The goal of the current study was to get further knowledge of whether the institutionalization of elderly people affects their perception of quality of life and their social support satisfaction. The present study’s design is quantitative, transversal and comparative, and the sample includes 93 people (convenience sampling) with ages between 65 and 95 years old, 56 individuals where in a institution and 37 where in a non-institutionalized situation. However, 15 subjects of the sample were removed due to cognition failures. Being so, we’re dealing with a sample of 78 old people. The material used included a social-demographic questionnaire, the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), Scales of Psychological Well-Being – Reduced version (S.P.W.B.-R), and Satisfaction with Social Support Scale. The findings revealed that the non-institutionalized elder showed higher psychological well-being and superior social support satisfaction than the elder living in an institution.
