São vários os autores que remetem para a importância das características pessoais do psicoterapeuta, e para a sua influência decisiva no andamento do processo psicoterapêutico.
Nesta perspectiva, a pessoa do psicoterapeuta é a variável mais importante no processo psicoterapêutico, uma vez que a sua personalidade e experiência actuam sobre os resultados. Assim, pode-se considerar que no desempenho do seu papel têm de estar criadas as condições para que o psicoterapeuta possa fazer uso de todas as suas potencialidades, além do conhecimento teórico e técnico adquirido, e possa usar no seu trabalho as características pessoais que mais beneficiam o grau de satisfação do paciente com o processo psicoterapêutico, pois potenciam uma relação verdadeira, profunda e construtiva para o paciente.
Os resultados demonstram que o facto de os alunos terem estado ou não em psicoterapia altera significativamente a relevância dada às características do psicoterapeuta. Os alunos que estiveram em psicoterapia dão maior relevância às características pessoais do psicoterapeuta, os que não estiveram em psicoterapia privilegiam as características profissionais do mesmo.
Espera-se que os resultados deste estudo exploratório contribuam de alguma forma para alimentar as reflexões e discussões à volta desta temática.
ABSTRACT : There are several authors who focus the importance of the personal characteristics of the psychotherapist, and its decisive influence in the course of the therapeutical process. In this perspective, the person of the therapist is the most important variable in the therapeutical process, as its personality and experience act on the results. Thus, it can be considered that in the performance of its paper the conditions have to be bred so that the therapist can make use of all its potentialities, beyond the theoretical knowledge and acquired technician, and that can use in its work the personal characteristics that more benefit the satisfaction level of the patient with the therapeutical process, therefore harness a true, deep and constructive relation for the patient. The results of the study show that students who undergo psychotherapy, and those who do not have significantly different views about a psychotherapists’ personal characteristics. Students who underwent psychotherapy attribute a greater relevance to the therapist’s personal traits, while those who did not have psychotherapy give more value to the therapist’s professional traits. It is expectable that the results of this exploration study contribute of some how to feed the reflections and debates about this thematic.
