Abstract(s)
Problem: Since persuasion in therapy is still a scarcely explored topic, much less with a sample with anxiety disorder, it became pertinent to study its correlation with the therapeutic alliance. Furthermore, since the therapeutic alliance is one of the most reliable and robust predictors of outcome across psychotherapeutic modalities, it was urgent to understand the impact of persuasion of alliance building in a therapeutic setting. Objective: The therapeutic relationship has been explored to understand which dimensions impact the construction of the therapeutic relationship, namely persuasion and its impact on therapeutic alliance formation. The impact of these dimensions is thus studied to understand better how one dimension impacts the other. Therefore, if the psychologist receives training on persuasion and how to apply it in therapy, the psychologist will be more likely to establish a good therapeutic alliance. Method: Fourteen videos from various psychotherapy consultations were randomly selected from the APPA database. The instruments used for data collection were the Working Alliance Inventory - Observer Version - Short Form (WAIO-S) scale and the Therapists Persuasiveness Rating Scale (TPRS). Data were analyzed using statistical procedures with the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software. Results: The results obtained reveal that persuasion is associated with the therapeutic alliance developed during the therapeutic sessions. There is a significant correlation and influence between the two variables. Other results also emerged, which revealed the existence of a strong indication that the therapist's stance has a greater expressiveness in strengthening the alliance.
