Abstract(s)
Os meios social e familiar em que o adolescente está inserido influenciam o seu
desenvolvimento identitário. Em situações em que este desenvolvimento identitário é
desadaptativo (elevada exploração ruminativa), o adolescente procura incessantemente novos
sistemas e aspetos com os quais se identificar. Os comportamentos autolesivos (CAL)
apresentam uma prevalência relevante na população portuguesa adolescente e no início da idade
adulta. A internet surgiu nos últimos anos e ocupa atualmente um papel central na vida dos
adolescentes e jovens adultos, particularmente em indivíduos com história de CAL que utilizam a
internet para realizar atividades sobre os CAL. A presente dissertação pretendeu explorar de que
modo a coesão familiar e a identificação com a família se relacionam com a procura de
identificação com outros sistemas, neste caso a internet, e além disso, qual o impacto desta
procura nas atividades online relativas aos CAL. Observou-se que: a identificação à família atua
como mediador parcial na relação entre a coesão familiar e a frequência de atividades online
sobre CAL; e que a atividade mais frequente foi a visualização de conteúdos sobre CAL. As
limitações deste estudo salientam a necessidade de realizar mais estudos sobre estas atividades e
a população que as realiza
ABSTRACT: The social and familiar environments that the adolescent is part of influence their identity development. In cases where this development is maladaptive (high ruminative exploration), the adolescent seeks relentlessly for new systems and aspects to identify with. The Self-Injurious Behaviours (SIB) have a relevant prevalence in the adolescent and young adults of the Portuguese population. The internet has come about in the last few years and occupies nowadays a central part in the life of adolescents and young adults, particularly when it comes to individuals with a history of SIB that use the internet to fulfil activities about SIB. The present dissertation intends to explore how family cohesion and family identification relate to the search for identification with other systems, in this case the internet, and furthermore, what is the impact of this search in the online activities regarding SIB. It was observed that: family identification acts as a partial mediator of the relationship between family cohesion and the frequency of online activities about SIB; and that the most frequent activity was the visualization of content about SIB. This study’s limitations emphasize the necessity to perform more studies about these activities and the population that executes them.
