Childhood Sexual Experiences Questionnaire, Altman (2005).
ABSTRACT: The study aims to estimate the prevalence of Child Sexual Abuse in a sample of 200 Portuguese adolescents, aged between 18 and 25 years old, who were questioned about their sexual experiences before age 12, through the self-reported questionnaire Childhood Sexual Experiences Questionnaire, Altman (2005). The results indicate 19% of participants related their involvement in at least one abusive experience before age of 12. The cases of abuse were more prevalent in females (22%) than male victims (13,7%). In 42,1% of the abuses, the victim would be less than 8 years old and the average age of onset of sexual abuse is 6,8 years old. In 70% of the abusive situations, the perpetrator was a âfriendâ or a âfamily memberâ of the abused child. The study reveals that this matter should have more attention from Portuguese authorities and health professionals.
