Abstract(s)
The main objective of this study consisted in check out if the attachment model between the child and his mother has influence in the capacity (our incompetence) of holding out and resistance when confronted with surgical pain, in hospitalized children. The sample has 20 children (with age between 3-7 years) and the respective mothers. This study was developed on the basis of an exploration and descriptive type of investigation, in which was used a Numerical and Facial Scales in order to measured the pain intensity in children – applied during the whole period of hospitalization – and the Maternal Self Report Inventory, with the objective of establish the relation between the maternal representations and the attachment model existent in the mother-chid relationship – applied to the mothers in a post-surgical moment. The results had demonstrated global and individual high self-esteem levels and regularity in children answer – “No Pain”. Subsequently, this study sends to the idea that the attachment model influences the capacity of holding out and resistance of the children.
