Abstract(s)
o Mental Toughness Index (Rodrigues, 2019), e o PERMA-Profiler (Emidio, 2015).
ABSTRACT: The study presented here aims to study the effect of the dark triad in coaches on the well-being of athletes. In order to complement this study, it was suggested to study the moderating role of mental toughness in the relationship between the dark triad and well-being. This study has 167 participants, 104 of whom are male and the remaining 62 female, with participants aged between 18 and 69. In order to assess the variables in this study, the following instruments were used: the Dark Triad Dirty Dozen by Cook et al. (2022), the Mental Toughness Index by Rodrigues (2019) and finally, Perma-PROFILER by Emidio (2015). After performing the correlations, it was observed that the black triad has a negative effect on the dimensions of relationships and positive emotions (except narcissism), while it has a positive relationship with negative emotions and the dimension of loneliness (except Machiavellianism). In addition, there is a positive association between mental robustness and the well-being of athletes. With regard to moderations, it can be seen that in athletes with high mental toughness, the traits of Machiavellianism and psychopathy promote an increase in negative emotions. However, there is a moderating role for mental toughness in the effect of narcissism on the health dimension. The results show the importance of promoting athletes' well-being and mental toughness, as well as the importance of training coaches to provide positive leadership for their athletes.
