Abstract(s)
A Ansiedade,
ABSTRACT: To be a Young Adult is synonymous of living a period in which occurs the consolidation and experimenting of important transformations. Many studies suggest that Emotional Intelligence is especially important in the health and well-being of Young Adults. Anxiety, Depression and Stress are the most common problems in Mental Health, especially in younger people. The reason for this study was to try to contribute to scientifical literature concerning the relationship between these concepts and Emotional Intelligence, which are not very developed, especially not concerning the Portuguese reality. The pertinence of this work was to advocate for the need to invest in potentializing Emotional Intelligence to benefit Young Adults’ Mental Health and Well-Being. The main objective of this study was to better understand the relationship between Emotional Intelligence and Anxiety, Depression and Stress in Young Adults. Also, to comprehend their impact in Emotionally Important Relationships, Physical Exercise and Academic Education and Career Adaptability. We used the quantitative method, applying online a questionnaire with the Portuguese version of two instruments – “Emotional Competence and Skills Questionnaire” (ECSQ) and “Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scales” (DASS) – and we included sociodemographic questions. The sample of this study was 409 participants, mainly women, working or studying, with higher education, and especially from more specialized professions. The results leaded to a negative correlation between Emotional Intelligence and Anxiety, Depression and Stress in Young Adults, as well as a positive correlation between Emotional Intelligence / Physical Activity and Adaptability in the Career area.
