Abstract(s)
valores obtidos, χ2/df = 4.957; CFI = .890; TLI = .874; RMSEA = .088, o modelo
With the fast and constant development of digital technologies, we currently face a generation of children growing up with technology, immersed in a world of digital gadgets connected to the Internet, the so-called “digital natives”. In this context, parents feel increasingly challenged in their competencies regarding the parental mediation of the use of Internet by small children. Following this, based on the studies of parental styles and parental styles in the supervision of children’s use of Internet, the current investigation aims to build a transcultural validation of the “Internet Parenting Style Instrument (IPSI) for the Portuguese and Brazilian populations. Furthermore, aiming to observe the correlation between these styles, we have used the Questionnaire of Parental Styles and Dimensions (QEDP), in order to understand the dependencies and characteristics of supervision by parents with children from 2 to 12 years old, and the possible differences between the two aforementioned. From the Factorial Analytic Confirmation performed, according to the values obtained, χ2/df = 4.957; CFI = .890; TLI = .874; RMSEA = .088, the model shows a weak adjustment, but acceptable, to both populations. The results pointed to a variance of the model, tested through a multigroups analysis, indicating a difference statistically significant ( χ2 R- χ2 U = 1725,756 (524) – 1771,843 (544) = 46,087 (p = .001). Such information is also found in other studies, in which it is observed that practices of parental mediation of the use of Internet are based on cultural norms, socio-economic and educational context of the parents. Therefore, the Scale of Parental Styles of Supervision of the use of Internet (EEPSI), contributes to the evaluation of the supervision by parents, enabling the construction of educational models for supporting parents in the face of the challenges in supervising the media use.
