Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT: Menstrual attitudes reflect the perception of sociocultural constructs and have a major impact on women's lives during their reproductive cycles. Even today, topics relating to the female genital body and menstruation are permeated by great taboo. The aim of this study was to understand how greater knowledge of the female genital body and the menstrual cycle has a positive impact on embodiment experiences and therefore on better menstrual attitudes. A correlational analysis was carried out with a group of 555 women and a multiple regression with 455 Brazilian and Portuguese women between the ages of 18 and 49 who were exclusively or mostly heterosexual. The most important result of this study was the obvious direct relationship between knowledge of the genital body and better embodiment experiences, which consequently results in more positive menstrual attitudes. This study has relevant clinical, social and educational implications. Menstrual education is an opportunity to enable girls and women to have more accurate and better understanding of their genital bodies.
