Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT: The hospital clown is one of the main agents in the process of humanizing health services. The hospital is an environment often characterized by tension, pain, and suffering. These characteristics directly affect the daily lives of hospitalized patients, their families, and health professionals. There are extensive studies in the literature that prove the positive impact that clowning has on this environment and on all the people who are part of it; however, there is little material that focuses on exploring the barriers that hospital clowns face. This study, of a qualitative and exploratory nature, aims to investigate the challenges faced by clown professionals of the Operação Nariz Vermelho (ONV) project. Data collection was carried out through a Playback Theater session with the objective of gathering narratives from clowns about experiences and experiences of their profession that were challenging for them. Twenty professionals participated, most of them artists, who are part of the ONV cast and 7 artists who are part of the Teatro Playback Projeto Eco – dISPAr Theater group. A Thematic Analysis was carried out, the results of which highlighted four themes and eleven subthemes. It was noted that the challenges that clowns face involve issues such as the hospital environment, relationship with their partner, prejudices, etc., and these influence the quality of their work. Effective communication and mutual support among the team is of utmost importance.
