Abstract(s)
psicoterapêutica no rendimento académico no Instituto
Superior Técnico. A amostra constituiu-se por 56
alunos que recorreram ao Núcleo de Aconselhamento
Psicológico durante os anos lectivos 1996/97 e
1997/98 e que fizeram entre 4 e 43 sessões de
psicoterapia individual.
ABSTRACTS: After reviewing existing studies on the influence of counseling and psychotherapy on academic success, the authors present the results of a research on the effect of psychotherapeutic intervention on academic success conducted at the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) in Lisbon. The sample consists of 56 students that sought help at the counseling center of IST between September 1996 and July 1998 and who received between 4 and 43 sessions of psychotherapy. The subjects improved 28% on a measure of the number of passed exams in comparison with the period before the psychotherapy, whereas a control group did not change in the same period. The authors discuss the possible explanations for the fact that this effect is much higher than is usually found in similar studies.
