Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT: Social changes over the years, with the participation of women in the labour market, have meant that childcare no longer takes place solely within the family. The need to develop services to ensure the education and basic care of children, particularly in early childhood, sought to respond to the changes that arose with the entry of women into the labour market. It has therefore become essential to understand, in the light of education professionals and parents, how they perceive the adaptation of children in an educational context that differs from the family environment. With this in mind, this qualitative study followed a thematic analysis and its objectives were to identify the aspects that contribute to the child's proper adaptation to daycare, the main difficulties encountered during this period and the main advantages/disadvantages of attending daycare for the children's development. In order to meet the proposed objectives, 20 semi-structured interviews were carried out - both with education professionals (i.e., educators and assistants; n=10) and with the children's parents (n=10). The results helped to identify the factors that facilitate the child's process of adapting to daycare, the difficulties experienced, as well as identifying the advantages/disadvantages of attending daycare.
