Abstract(s)
Problema: Sabe-se que as pessoas LGB de idade avançada constituem uma minoria
sexual etária, mas pouco é o conhecimento sobre o impacto que as suas relações familiares
tiveram na expressão da sua sexualidade, considerando o contexto socio-histórico de
Portugal nas últimas décadas. Objetivo: O presente estudo pretende compreender de que
forma os diferentes tipos de famílias influenciam a saúde dos seniores LGB portugueses,
ao longo do ciclo de vida, através da exploração dos fatores de stress e de proteção
potenciados pelas mesmas. Método: Foram realizadas sete entrevistas semiestruturadas
a seniores LGB com 60 ou mais anos, com apoio à técnica da linha de vida. Resultados:
Os resultados foram analisados de acordo com o método de análise temática, que permitiu
encontrar sete temas: “Família de Origem”; “Família de Procriação”; “Família de
Escolha”; “Experiência Pessoal”; “Coming Out”; “Idade Sénior”; e “Linha de Vida”.
Discussão: As famílias dos seniores LGB potenciaram fatores de stress e fatores de
proteção, em diferentes fases do seu ciclo de vida. Foram discutidos os fatores de stress
e proteção identificados e os impactos que tiveram na saúde e bem-estar dos seniores
LGB.
ABSTRACT: Problem: It is known that elderly LGB people constitute a sexual minority group, but little is known about the impact their family relationships have had on the expression of their sexuality, considering the socio-historical context of Portugal in recent decades. Objective: This study aims to understand how different types of families have influenced the health of elderly LGB Portuguese individuals throughout their life cycle, by exploring the stress and protective factors associated with each family. Method: Seven semi structured interviews were conducted with LGB seniors aged 60 or older, using the lifeline technique. Results: The results were analyzed according to the thematic analysis method, which identified seven themes: "Family of Origin"; “Family of Procreation"; “Family of Choice"; "Personal Experience"; "Coming Out"; "Elderly Age"; and "Life Course". Discussion: The families of LGB seniors influenced stress and protective factors at different stages of their life cycle. The identified stress and protective factors and their impacts on the health and well-being of LGB seniors were discussed.
