Abstract(s)
Nesse sentido, a literatura
Teacher´s Resilience Scale (MTRS).
One of the most talked about and debated topics today is the state of the teaching profession. The constant strikes across the country, together with complaints from schools that they can't provide enough teachers for their students, paint a disturbing picture of the possible future of this profession. Contemplating the current situation, the literature has shifted its focus to understanding how we can retain teachers in schools, in an attempt to combat the current problem. Two constructs that have been widely investigated are motivation and resilience, as well as their capacity to predict the intention of leaving the profession. On the other hand, recruitment groups are a construct that haven’t gotten a lot of attention in literature, having said that, authors in this area report that there are differences in the way teachers act, think and teach, which sparked interest in this research. This study sought to analyze whether these variables changed depending on the teacher's recruitment group, in the context of middle and high schools in the Região Autónoma da Madeira (RAM). Data was collected through an online questionnaire, using some sociodemographic questions, a scale assessing motivation, Factors Influencing Teaching (FIT)-Choice Scale and an instrument assessing resilience, the Multidimensional Teacher's Resilience Scale (MTRS). It should be noted that leaving the profession was measured through a question about the intention to leave the profession, which is considered a measure that predicts leaving the profession itself. The study had 198 participants, 145 female and 53 males, and these teachers had between 1 and 49 years of experience on the job. Finally, the evidence collected suggested that motivation differed between the teachers of different subjects, it allowed a closer look at the relationship between motivation and resilience as predictors of the intention of leaving and it added literature to the teacher context of RAM.
